Personally I learn the best strategy's from watching replays/recorded games. Especially for treaty booms.
If you have a recorded game that you would like to share please do so that we can all benefit.

I've only recorded few games. if my recollection serves me well it doesn't work properly with NE though, just like saved games crash.

So what's the highest sore you've had at te end of a treaty?

Also, welcome Smile

I've had very high scores. I killed my military, and left only a scout for the enemies. Then I populated the whole map with mills.

How would that make your score go higher? And how could you wipe out your enemy during a treaty?

You do realise I meant the highest score at the end of a treaty period, not a game?

Oh? Well... That would be almost the same strategy. Rapid colonization and massive wood gathering works best.

I think you get as many score points per 100 of any resource, which means wood gathering wouldn't be the best if you wanted a super-high score, but food gathering (since it is the fastest). Similarly, spreading out is stupid because your units will spend time walking instead of gathering.

2000 is a pretty good end score, depending a bit on which nation you use.

What I mean, SAOL, is that with lots of woodcutting, you can establish more, and thus deny the enemy a large portion of the map, for i.e. fort building afterwards.

True, but that is rather a part of strategising than anything else. You should still have a steady enough wood flow to be able to build what you need; you don't have to bulk on it if you can cope living on the margin.

I guess I have played enough games to know the importance of food and coin. That's after all what constitutes the cost of most units. The most obvious exception is artillery, but I really don't like using artillery, even though it usually is a rather good idea to do so. I use the organ gun when I play the Portuguese though, which was my main civ for quite a while online (long before I found out about NE).

That's part of what makes the Austrians interesting I think. They have many more costs in wood, which can feel a bit unusual coming from some less wood-intensive civilisation.

Swedes and Austrians would make an awesome combo lol

I love artillery in AoE, since I am so bloody unwilling to get any of my soldiers killed, I use a lot of mortars and naval bombardment to resupply my losses in that part.

However, I can hardly use Cavalry. They just keep dying.

I dunno. I usually don't have that much excess wood playing as the Swedes.

Idk, it just feels like a waste of resources and time to use them when you can get a much better ratio with heavier troops.

I know - but it just happens... It may be because AI spams cheap units. (Pikemen)
