I see. Well, I don't know if I would want that. Training armies in blocks of 5 would enable to pump them super quick. I'm sure the better online players won't like it, since it's truly a huge advantage.
As they cost shipments it seems unlikely that they be massable anyway. You could of course save all your shipments until you have enough to mass them, but it seems unlikely that it'd be worth doing in the long run.

Still possible though, since there is no significant plus for gameplay experience, I'm not gonna do it anyway. ^^

Apart from that I noticed the balance isn't that bad, even if I didn't know that effect before. The player benefits in two ways:

If the real pop of an army is actually higher than the banner army pop, it's a nice way to save some houses or even exceed the pop limit.

If the real pop of an army is actually less than the banner army pop (that'd be the case with armies that contain natives), it is first of all fair to have a build penalty for the native units, that gets automatically removed after arrival and secondly - basing on that - the player saves pop again, he just had to afford more pop once in time for buying that army. So that's the only real penalty and looks pretty balanced for seeing that he gets in exchange troops for less pop, less resources in a short period of time.

Excellent work Tilanus, this was one of the reports I really enjoyed reading! You're doing great.

I'm not supposed to reveal why of course (I can assure you it has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with the Byzantines), but I find it quite funny that even I have been coding banner armies before one of the great Ts...

Thanks Smile

I adjusted the banner army costs now a lil:

  • Verlorener Haufen: changed pop costs from 10 to 15 (the real value would be 20)
  • Hessisches Jägerkorps: pop costs decreased from 12 to 10 (real value is 15)
  • Sächsische Gardekavallerie: pop costs increased from 15 to 20 (real value is 30)
  • Württemberger Feldartillerie: shipment costs decreased from 2 to 1
  • Bayerisches Regiment: no changes
  • Kurhannoversches Regiment: no changes

Stat difference is the greatest virtue of old AoE games, but sadly AoE 3 overhauls it.
Glad to see this revert.

Some, myself included, would argue that the opposite is true, but given that historical accuracy has always been higher up the NE priority list than following set patterns, I don't really mind...

Also, I think that there shouldn't cost 2 shipements for 1 banner army, thats outrageous! not even chevvys (chevelauxlegers) cost that much! I think it should cut a bit of the units and a shipment.

Hi Tilanus, NE Team and All,
I agree with roy1012 that nobody will want to pay 2 Shipments just for a Banner army! You can only reach 4 or more Shipments when you destroy a enemy Settlement in Age IV or if you collect all the best Guarded XP treasures.

Re: Howitzer
I think it should be available in Age II but get stronger in Age III and IV.
Due to it Heavy Fire it should be as weak as those Italien Organ Guns!

Re: Longbowman
I agree seems as that " person" has nothing to do with the Napoleonic Era!
What kind of Skirmishers will they be getting?

Re: Spy
Must say: Great textures! and looks very like he is involved in the Napoleonic Era!
Good Work! Topmodel
Greetings,

That's basically only me. You can limit it to "Hi Tilanus" ^^

Age1 Pikemen are planned for the redesign (not for the next version), cause it's a quite radical change of game mechanics. But basically the Barracks would be available in Age 1, so that you can train Pikemen and Arquebusiers in Age 1. What you do with them is your choice. Wink

I've read all the balance criticism on the banner armies and I agree, they're not perfect yet and therefore I moved this task to Ca Putt (my hardest critic), hoping he will find a cool and well-balanced system for them.

I think Age III seems appropriate for Howitzers. British will get Skirmishers with RG status. Also their sharpshooter will have a good upgrade.

How is it hardcoded if it works fine in unmodded AOE3 and all the other mods?

Can't tell you as I'm basically modding a mod that I haven't done myself. If you precisely explain what the problem is, I may have a look on it.
