Does the Granny 3D viewer serve for editing units or is it just for overviewing files?

You can't edit anything, but get lots of valuable infos from the model. The most important surely is that you can see how many textures are linked to it and where they are located. It's also possible to test used and unused animations on several unit models and helpful if you're curiously looking for a good attachment.

These are the most frequent usages. Depending on your 3d expertise, you may do other stuff with it. In no means it is an editor, but ultimately a testing enviroment. For example, it makes sense to load imported Granny files into the Viewer to check the models on any irregularities or mistakes.

Edit: Also, that's fairly the wrong forum to post this topic in. Moved. Your topic is not a feedback on the NE website.

Sorry Embarassed
But if it is just for testing, why would you ever say it has helped a lot for texturing

Edit: and, by the way, is there any "granny editor", or is it just my imagination?

It helps for texturing, because even though you can guess the texture pathes from AnimFiles, there are also pathes that are different and not that easy to find (i.e. attachments for buildings such as carpets and barrels). Also, it helps you to see if your own textures of an own model work well also with the granny format without the need to start the game and editor everytime.

There is a Granny Editor, but that seems to be highly complex and super expensive software. It's nothing like a modeling software such as Blender or 3dsMax, but it's basically a tool that allows configurations for the granny file format.
