Hi, I thought of an idea a few days ago. Maybe for a civilization in age 1 the buildings all cost lots of wood, for example a house would cost 250 wood, but as they age it gets cheaper, so by age 5 houses would only cost 50 wood. Similarly, another civilization could have the opposite: earlier buildings cost less wood and later buildings cost more wood. in age 1 houses would cost 50 wood, and in age 5 houses would cost 250 wood. Note it doesn't have to just be houses, all buildings. its just an idea.

well it doesn't have to be that drastic, maybe 150 to 75/ 75 to 150, and if you don't age up then you don't get as good techs/units.

Why would anyone want to play a civilization that falls back so hard in early game compared to all other civs due to so much wood costs?
