I was just wondering when the next modding report about ne 2.18 might be. It would be nice to see what the new features will be and it might change my mind about the new ne3 aspects being added.

A report with detailed version announcements is most likely to come when we are at a development stage, that allows us to make specific concessions and reveal detailed plans and intentions. The past has shown that even those goals we set ourselves and were certain to accomplish could turn out in an instant to be illusions and suddenly far away from getting realized in the near future. And chances are not too bad we'll have to adjust the announcement lists again for a couple of times. Wink

Modding and game development in general simply comes with an unpredictable nature, that you can not even overcome with a perfect, bulletproof production masterplan. And that is, because such thing does not exist. The art of producing lies in maintaining flexibility in development at any point in time to quickly respond to unpredictable situations, threats and bottlenecks and act accordingly. At the same time it should be obvious that trying to make the unpredictable predictable (which is the magic that producers do) is not going to work in all situations. Especially not at projects that are as complex as updating a grown mod of a sophisticated real-time strategy videogame on nearly all imaginable levels.

We conciously destroyed any of our flexibility after NE 2.1.7b by repeatedly promising that the next version will fix the issue of limited civilizations. Some may in retrospective say it was a stupid thing to do, but fixing this issue was already overdue for much too long. I want to hold this particular promised solution in every case, also in order to maintain our credibility. We have postponed things we teasered way too often already, that I do not want this to happen again this time, because this fix is too crucial for NE to be missed again.

So yea, we've been terrible at the art of producing last year, but the unmatched stability of NE 2.1.7b allows us to do that. You guys will be compensated a lot for the waiting. From the reports you know very well we haven't only been working on the resolving the issue of limited access to civs. In that regard our producing went quite well. Mr. Green
