Hey everybody. I was wondering what you guys thought of a steam group for NE. I am not sure if one of these already exists. A steam group could do multiple things.

1. Hub for people to congregate and meet and meet friends
2. Place to announce updates to the community, as most people check steam more often than this website
3. Place to organize tournaments and events
4. A way to spread info about NE. For example you send invites to all people who have AoEIII, then you tell them to check out the website. This one doesn't have to do with the steam group but rather steam in general; as a way to expand the community.

It would be a way to turn the mod into a more organized unit. The reason most companies try to incorporate social media with their company is that many people go on social media mostly every day and would see that company. Not everyone knows about NE and this can be a way to boost player activity. Most pc gamers log into steam at least once a day. Thoughts?

There is indeed a (quite old) Steam group already: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AoE3NE

I don't know about point #1, becaue you don't need steam opened to play NE. So I'm in a little doubt it's going to be a highly frequented place. It only has 35 members to this day (and I'm not even the owner of it Mr. Green ). Surely, we could crank up the group's popularity with some posts.

As for organizing events, I'd prefer to do that here or on the eso-community. I agree though that it makes sense to be present on Steam and give it some purpose (currently it has none).

Another possibility could be to create a NE clan on ESO? Mr. Green

There's also one, but I forgot the exact wording (it was weird). But you're right, I should make an official one and promote it a lil. Smile

Jeez, it seems impossible to create a NE clan on ESO even with an 2nd or 3rd choice abbreviation. I tried all these, none of them worked. They all seem to be taken even though I was checking them on ESO ladders:

  • NE
  • NEO
  • AOENE
  • AoE3NE
  • NE2
  • NE3
  • NAPO
  • NERA
  • NECL
  • NESO

Nothing. "Already exists". What the fuck.

I believe there already is an NE based clan called NEera...? (something like that, maybe an accented e)
I'm not sure if they're still active though, they were last year. I used to be in it but I stopped playing AoE3 for a while.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Edeholland is in it...?

Yea, exactly. I forgot the correct spelling, but that already shows why I didn't want to recycle the name. Very cryptic, hard to remember. Edeholland seems to be in another clan now. I can ask him though. Are you still in that clan, Ande?

There is one clan called NERA by an obviously German player called xXRage_AgeXx, who's been online in 2016. I added him to my friend list, even though I'm very rarely online at all. I'd probably leave him a message later (very busy right now).

Edit: I just realized I didn't try any fancy characters like ~ - . etc. Maybe that's gonna work?

No, I am no longer in the clan as their timezone was GMT -8 or -6, which was inconvenient for me personally. however the leader is/was šl˘vis (accents may be incorrect, except the š). I'll try to find out what the clan name is within the next two days (if it's still there)
The reason I mentioned this clan is because they were very active; at least once every two days for 8 hours.

I reckon having an ESO clan would be a good way to advertise about the mod, Tilanus. I was thinking, (expanding on the Steam Idea), considering Steam has a workshop where you can download "mods" and alterations of other games, is it possible to put a link to this website within Steam Workshop? (That is, if it doesn't breach Steam's T&C of course lol )

There isn't a steam workshop for AoEIII unfortunately. I would petition to steam, but there aren't many mods out there...There's this one, WoL and a few smaller ones, but that's about it. There's only two main ones that many people play. There's a nice lord of the rings one which I've been following for a while, but it is yet to come out.

I'm still concerned, because there are many scenarios and AI files on the AoE3 Heaven. The workshop should be available.

We would have to petition it to steam somehow, but I'm not quite sure how. Perhaps we'd have to get in contact with microsoft to ask them to ask steam, as they actually own the game. Not really sure how to go about that.
