I just have a quick question. While working on maps, sometimes I need to modify terrain. Does the bumpmap alpha serve the same purpose for terrains as it does for units/buildings?

No, it doesn't. You need to test, not even the alpha for units and buildings always acts the same, but terrain wouldn't enable player colour since there is no player that owns the terrain. I suppose it works like the ground textures of buildings and is thus "cutting" out parts of it. But to conclude: No idea, why don't you try it out? Wink

I was actually talking about the bumpmap alpha, which you said in the tutorial makes it shiny. I don't know exactly what it does; I think it lightens it, but only slightly. I was just wondering if anyone knew for sure. Thanks, though.

Oh, I see. Bumpmaps for terrains are only necessary in view of surface shape. If you want a shiny terrain, use shiny bright colours.

Hem, its really complicated, especially the step with the Tahatus tutorial link. I dont understand how to create a new unit. Isnt it like "copying" a unit and then "texture" this unit?

P.S. sorry for my english, i wish i could speak german here lol:D

If you know aoe3.de you might check the "Diskussion" forum in there, I wrote an article about modding in general, it might help you to understand. Wink

just a tip, when you make the alpha for the normal map, don't use a plain white. a plain white will have as result a really shiny light. But if you have a clear grey, your lighting will be more beautiful.

of course, you can use various greys, for having different lightings. Smile

Actually it should be the same procedure.

9.0 should be CS2, after 7.0 the CS series started.
