I like the Austrians, especially the Grenzers! Topmodel

I had an Idea for them that is in The Idea Zone thread, but I'll post it here in case you don't find it.

Croissants- Battle experience from the Ottoman siege of Vienna makes your Grenzers and cavalry even deadlier against artillery.
Hussar- adds 1.10x bonus to all actions damage versus artillery
Grenzer- adds 4.00x bonus to all actions damage against artillery
Grenzer-adds 5.00 range
Dragoon-adds 4.00x bonus to all actions damage against artillery

Card prerequisite- you must have at least a level 25 HC and 1 card choice available to purchase this card.

What do you think? Smile

I think it is irrelevant in the strategies forums.

I just go slow with the austrians. The cheap settlers gives you some more food to play around with.

I agree with SAOL, Amelia's message is irrelevant in this topic.

Let's see, Aussie, wait until my brain will release some strategies...

Oh, yes.

If I remember correctly, the Austrians start with one extra Settler. Put +1 Settler on food, to quickly jump in the Colonial Age. This is better than to put all the Settler one food in Discovery (like I saw on one old topic), because you'll lack of coin and wood. Doesn't matter in what age you are, just try to put the same number of Settlers on each resource, + 5% for the resource you lack. This is available for all civs.

The Austrian politicians look near as the Native American ones. They are the same in each age (except the Queen in the Fortress Age) and provide more resources with each time you age up. For a good start, in Discovery select the Senechal (that one that provides resources). In the last ages is the best to select the politicians that send troops.

The Austrians have good fortifications, so use them ASAP. Build Watch Towers near your town, and put the Keeps (they are build from the Explorer, and they act like a little bit weaker Forts) near enemy bases/natives or trade routes/rich resource regions for a good protection. Try to upgrade these Defensive buildings.

The last: organizing your military.

Grenzers are good against infantry, and are cheaper than the Line Infantry, if I remember correctly. Is good to train them in mass, but be sure that you have some Line Infantry, too. Then train artillery (Falconets, Mortars, Culverins, Horse Artillery, whatever you want). The best cav unit are the Hussars (especially when u upgrade them to Magyar Husz). If you have additional resources, train some Grenadiers, too.

+4 for Drago

BTW, I am bad at remembering things, so could someone give me the names of the Austrian royal guard units? I think one's "Impandour" or something...

I think it is the Pandour (grenzer) and the hussar, as drago wrote.

You can always look here

Pandour (upgraded from Grenzer)
Magyar Husz (upgraded from Hussar)

I actually think that the Grenzer-Pandour should be Pandour-grenzer, because the Grenzers were after the Pandours (Grenzers were regular soldiers that derived from the irregular Pandours).

I really like the Austrians, they have good unit combos. Skirms, Grenzer and Line Infantry +some artillery. You don't really need cavalry, but it's always a good addition.

The thing I really like is the cheap settler thing. It gives you extra food to play around with.

yes, we are ALL gay for Austria Rolling Eyes

Btw, why does the image for Line Infantry have them wearing a black hat when they end up wearing what seems to be a shiny pickle-hob (misspelling was intentional...Its what I do)

The avatars does not change when you age up. The standard ones only gives a somewhat impression of what the unit look like, but are all a lot neeter.

Wow that was poorly formulated.

Yes.

Upgrades=Better units=Better Bang-Bang=More Enemy Corpses=A Weakend Enemy=Better Economy To You=Edge To You=Your Victory=Oppurtunity To Thank Your Opponent For A Good Match=Oppurtunity To Gloat Devil

See, the perfect strategy. Mr. Green
