ok this is how to beat anyone with the old french.
game rules:
clasic game
age: nomad game
dificulty: modrate
players: anyone but naval maniacs
deck style: a combo of a forts factorys fortifications and lots of units upgrades

this works only on maps like the amazonia


what you do first is put your town centers on the side of the shore and put all your couriours on food and advance with the philosiphor prince or with a outpost wagon.

once at colonial age focus on 10 minimun couriuors on each resource and 2 to build. put your first 5 trained couriours on wood or send wood shipments. after 5 on wood and 1 biulder focus on biulding outpostes and coin.

the goal of this stratigy is to completely fortify your economy with before your enemy can attack then build an army.

finaly after having at least an army of 20 musketeers and a decent amout of gatherers. advance to the fortress age.


once there comes my favorite building FORTS. thats right build the fortress age fort where you think you will need the most protection then the next upgrade should be the outposts.

focus on military after you have a safe shore until you think about industrial age or upgrades.

sooner or later your enemy will advance to the fortress age then you need an army for cannon. which reminds me to also re forticy the shore with cannon expeshaly falconets curvlins and grenideirs are useless.

by now you should be at the industrial age.

here think about sending more forts and factorys and getting your outposts upgraded again along with your forts.

by now if you have the heavy fortifications card send it first!!!.

now is the time to think about raiding build docks along the coast to prevent your enemy to land in ceartain areas or force a naval attack.

you should think on naval shipments and build you naval warfare untill you have all your ships.

frigates then monitiors then galleons then caravels: canos are a joke
admarility card plays a key role here

if by some how your enemy is at the industrial age by any time this is a
worry to know.

he or she can now send down their best armys or sort of and atack you with monotiors. to combat this:

renforece your fleet and think about heavy bombardments from the sea with monotiors.

dont forget your army keep training troops and replace falconets with mortars on the coast

flaconets send them with some army as a raiding party mainly skirmishers to see what the enemy has in training.

dont forget the arsinal never forget it.

after huge defesne and a good reasources now is the time to choose a fatal choice. Imperial age or revolution.

of your oponet has not already offered a surrender and has a very weak colony you may consider rebeling.

if your opponet stillis greeat and powerfull there is only one option
imperialism.

by now you should be in the imperial age.

the first building in this age should be a capital

if not already get spies first and be sure to send the one time only cards before the infinte
if your oponet is here before you ,you are in a heap of trouble advance should be your only topic

now fucus on full scale attacks and heavy econnomy and upgrades.

heated shot should be your first arsinal upgrade if you have not upgraded it even then still make it the first.

have not mentioned this but build town centers along the coast

when the time come you should now when you are safe very safe

focus on suepreme military. have barracks units trained factorys producing heavy cannon stabble training calavary at this rate you should ahve a NE army very soon then FULL SCALE ATTACK

stage one spies must be on if you can do heavy bombardments with your monitiors

stage two land your armys

stage three order your iffantry and cannon to engage the main army

calavary flank the cannon

its a good idea to order cannon to fire on croweded enemy areas for maximum damage.

one the enemy army is gone take out training centersfirst outposts next if possible town centers

by this point the enemy has no defence or you need a new army

take out everything else by now settlers first


by now your enemy is so crippeld they must have offered a surrender

dont accept find the last of them and kill them once and for all

other tips


of you have coin lots of it early consider on mercinarys.
always before main atacks have at least 50 men do defend your colony.
if by some how the enemy gets troops on the land worry about destroying them then flodding that area with docks for them to land somewhere else

never place outpost to close to the water

alsways keep them a bit inland only enough to fit a dock in front of them

Well, I suppose it would work with them as well. It is a good plan, I have done similar things before with success.

It can very easily be adapted to the NE french. In fact, it can be adapted to every civ in the game.
