Chris, care to explain your point of view?

For all those who have played treaty games online, you know that all these resources may last 30-40 min max after the treaty ends. Therefore, its also very important to micro if you can, and depending if your economy is stronger or not, you decide to attack or to wear off the enemy.

ZOMG You must be an excellent player and strategist! How long was the treaty in-game? Either that or the Italians have a really epic economy.
I can't wait to reinstall AoE3. I used to love it so much, and then I was introduced to the IL-2 series of flight sims, and my computer had issues.
Hope to get it up and running ASAP so I can be at least on some par with you guys.

Cheers! Topmodel

You welcome. I also tend to swtich between this game and FM10, although FM10 takes a lot longer. In either case, in our online group every player is very comeptitive and hate loose except for one, lol. The thing is that each of us focused on one civ, and made many tests and at the end we just share our findings. I did personally Sweden and Italy, other guys did the others, and what happens is that we all try each other strategy couple of times.

It took me a week trying and trying, testing and testing to find what I think is an adequate score and balance for Italy in treaty. By no means I claim its the best, since I know there are far better players than me.

first of all, their villagers are the best. second these companies cards are very good and cheap and they send many soldiers in even the 2nd age,so you mass your army better.i also like the cards that represent cities and the moneylanding techs. but i am talking about rush, not treaty

Treaty like any other mode requires a lot of practice. From what I heard in other forums as well, the transition from a rush player to a treaty player is much easier than the other way around.

The highest score ever I managed to do, was with Prussia scoring a ridiculous 3066 pts at 40 min mark. With India and China around 2700, with Russia, USA, Swiss, around 2800, the lowest was with Japan, a meager 1700, using the Red Seal card for the Hata´s, but even then I could only get 56k export.

Chris, Italy´s villagers are really good, but I have to disagree that they are the best. Let me tell you why I think so. The swiss follower, has greater gather rates, it also work as a skirmisher. With cards, they can get a very nice attack, around 500hp, and are stealth. The max limit is very similar, Swiss 58, Italy 57 so far I tested.

The mercenaries cards, or companies cards like you say, I admit are great. Not all of them, but I reckon that at least 1 or 2 of them are a must in every deck. First, they are cost effective, and with one estate card, are even cheaper. 2nd, with another card, they come pretty fast and are infinite. In treaty a must, because you might end up the game, with 20 shipments left and no cards left to use.

The moneylending techs are awesome too. As Italy I mostly struggle against good polish players that play extremely agressive (which is the way to go with them). Also the Swiss, can get you into trouble very fast.

Again, these comments are for ONLINE play only.

I go more for treaty games, since I've never liked rushing.

Of course, you don't need much thought when playing against the AI

You could if you really want it. Nothing is impossble.

As for online games, in treaty, and from my own experience and those whom I play with, the key to a good start, is having a superb balanced eco, with some decisive micro. In 1 vs 1, you will probably get Spies quiet fast. So I would wait if possible for the opponent to make their army first, and then make my balanced army to counter his/hers.
If he doesnt make an army until late, I would start making my army at the 37 min mark, regardless of whats happening. Sending some villies as well to gain map control as soon as possible.

In 2vs2, you should have a lot of gold if you choose to get spies early. Normally, against good players, Spies would cost around 25k-30k gold at 40min. The longer you wait the more expensive it gets. The bad thing about treaty, imo, is that any civ that has great advantages due to their stealth, like the Swiss for example, are obsolete.

The Xp gathering is definitely an advantage for the Italians. If you compare them to the slowest which is Sweden, by the end of a 40 min treaty, Italy has 5 cards still to pick, and Sweden about 10. Having said this, as Italians, you could use this surplus for A) more economic cards, B) military upgrades C) Instant troops cards.

I would go for A or C depending on the opposition civ.
